Black Panther has made a cultural impact in the past two weeks since its release. It has been the highest rated Blockbuster for the second week running and has almost met the billion-dollar box office mark.
Black Panther has become a new household name for Marvel while also making history. The film itself is a remarkable, beautiful piece of work with an intense storyline, dialogues that will be forever quoted and remembered, and special effects that will leave your jaw dropping. But of course, we cannot forget the film’s soundtrack. This music helps take you into the land of Wakanda. With tribal drums and African chants, the music itself makes you want to cross your arms against your chest and scream “WAKANDA FOREVER!!!!”
The genius behind the film’s score is Ludwig Goransson, who recently won a Grammy for his work on Childish Gambino’s album Redbone. READ MORE
NEW Drummer Talent
In 2017, 21-year-old Justin Winters won the Blue Man Group’s Boston Drum-Off Competition. He won over $6000 in prizes including a DW drum set, Vic Firth Sticks, Sabian Symbols, and other accessories. He also received Blue Man Group tickets and other Blue Man Group products.
Justin won this prestigious competition because he did an amazing job. He had great stage presence that really got the crowd fired up. Even so, Winters had some major competition. Every competitor in the 2017 competition was an extremely talented drummer, but Justin’s extra flare set him apart from the rest of the competitors.
The judges whittled the final group down from 45 applicants. The top five finalists had two rehearsals before they performed. The received these rehearsals because they needed to learn new music. The winner performed with the Blue Man Group after the final round at the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival. Justin’s performance in the final round was inspiring, and that won him the Boston Drum-off Competition.
From West Covina, CA, Mark Pacpaco started playing drums at the early age of 7. His passion for drumming developed at his local church.
He was announced the winner of the 28th Guitar Center’s Annual Drum Off Competition in 2017. Guitar Center’s Annual Drum Competition has spotlighted many young and talented drummers. Thousands of undiscovered drummers from across the country sign up every year to compete at more than 200 regional Guitar Center stores nationwide. Out of 5,000 participants five are chosen to participate in the Finals.
Mark Pacpaco won a prize package valued at nearly $50,000 that included endorsement deals, gear, and cash.
