Drums have been an extremely popular instrument since the beginning of time. They have been used for communication amongst tribes, keeping rhythm, and receiving the second-most amount of love in a band—next to the lead singer of course. But, enough of this brief history. Suffice it to say that the drums have become extremely important, especially for music beginners. Drums are one of the most popular instruments for young players next to the piano. But just like a warrior finding his perfect weapon for combat, drummers must find the starter set that makes them stand out from the rest. So today we will give you a list of the best beginner drum sets.

Gammon 5-Piece Drum Set

Gammon provides a simple, 5-piece kit that is great for beginners and for more experienced players who need to practice before a show. Gammon makes their 5-piece drum set affordable. It will only set you back around $259.95. This is not a bad price compared to how much drums usually cost. But, the truth of the matter is you get what you pay for. The cymbals are not the best and they definitely cannot be used for performances. Even so, this set is great for beginners or people on a budget.

Pearl Road Show 5-Piece Drum Set

Even if you are not familiar with the Pearl brand, I am pretty sure you have seen Pearl label on a kick or snare from time to time. Their Road Show 5-Piece drum set serves as a great entry kit, while also providing a stellar sound quality. Pearl adds in the bonus of multiple color options. You can get this set in four different colors and who wouldn’t love that. For a list price of $499, this is a huge upgrade from the Gammon 5-Piece set. My only complaint is that the throne [what’s wron with the throne?], but that’s a small price to pay for a great beginners set of drums.

Mendini MDS80

Cheaper than the first two kits I have reviewed. The Mendini will definitely be lighter on your pockets, plus it is available at Wal-Mart and K-Mart. However, its availability can be also a con, as a customer might assume that a drum set coming for these stores won’t be that great for anything more than practice. Plus, the crash cymbals are very low quality, so you do not want to take this to your band’s gig at the local bar or you might just get laughed at.

Pearl Export

You might say that Pearl’s Exports drum set is a little classier than the others. However, you pay for that class and quality. Pearl sells the Export for a little over $600. This set is much more durable than the others mentioned here. Unfortunately, even the Export’s high price does not get you crash cymbals. IN addition to buying crash cymbals, you will probably have to change the stock heads if you want full sound potential.

Tama Imperialstar

With a great sounding snare drum, double-braced hardware, and more, the Tama Imperialstar is well worth its $699 price. This drum set is in a league of its own. Yes, the price might scare you, but if you want the best in something, you should purchase the best equipment The only downfall of this drum set is that the tom can be stubborn when it comes to positioning, and the stock heads are not good. Even so, this is one of our top choices for beginners.
