GP Percussion GP55BK 5-Piece Junior Drum Set

This five-piece junior kit includes two rack toms, a floor tom, snare, cymbal, and a hi-hat. Heads are tunable with the included key, although they are only four lug. The rack toms measure eight and 10 inches, with a 12 inch floor tom, 16 inch bass tom, 10 inch snare, 9.5 inch ride cymbal, and eight inch hi-hat. The new drummer will have a full set to learn on.If you want your child to have the full drums set experience right away, but still want the price be low this may be a good option.

Ludwig Junior Drum Set

Who wouldn’t go for a brand that has been cosigned by Ringo Star from the Beatles? This junior set is great for little ones who are inspired to be one of the greatest drummers of all time. The drum set is durable enough to handle children’s playing techniques, but—of course—the cymbals that come with the set do not sound great. Now adults, this set isn’t large enough for you, so you cannot steal it from your kids.

Gammon Junior Drum Set

This is possibly my least favorite on this list because Gammon presents their Junior Drum Set more as a toy than an actual product for practicing and advancing. The junior drum set is best suited to having your toddler pound away and just have fun. The drum sound is amateur compared to the other junior sets presented here. But hey, it’s available in 4 different colors, so it gives you options.

Mendini Junior Drum Set

Mendini is a little bit better than the Gammon, but that is still not saying much. The kick sounds more like a floor tom, which can be a problem for most, but this is for the kids. The list price is only $150 so it won’t burn a hole in your pocket, but you do get what you pay for.

Ludwig Pocket Kit Drum

The best product on our junior set list. Not only is this kit is affordable, but it was made by Hip Hop legend himself, Questlove (please listen to The Roots, if you have no knowledge of this spectacular artist). The sound of the drums themselves makes the kits discussed here sound like toys. Even though it’s for junior drummers, some adults can use this kit as well. The heads take some time to make sound good out the box, but that’s a minor issue. If your little one is serious about getting into drumming, I would definitely suggest looking into this set first.
